  5. Well today I saw this old article about the cost of insulin. While I am not surprised that the cost of medication is rising but what bothers me is that more and more people are having to rely on medications. For many you may ask, why would a nurse who makes a living conducting clinical research trials on new therapies would not be elated that meds are on the market? Well, while I believe that medications are required at the necessary times, I can’t believe the number of people do not take their health management serious and recognize that the responsibility is their own. Healthcare providers are needed, God started healthcare and the physicians to care for the sick, but if the prescribed care plan is not followed, why should we blame the healthcare system? I live in Texas, and everything is big in Texas so is the cost of healthcare because the people are bigger too. Texas a whole has more obese people than other states, we have leading the nation in cardiovascular incidents and even with in the top 5 with Type 2 Diabetes. That is really not too impressive.
I agree, the cost of medications are expensive but if we don’t need to take them then that would not be a problem. We offer a program that prevents Type 2 Diabetes. However, I had a client who enrolled in the program who had been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and was taking 2 insulins, and 2 oral medications for diabetes among others about 14 months ago. Well, I am happy to report that she has now loss over 50 pounds, she no longer requires insulins and her healthcare provider is discussing lowering the doses of the other medications. My client expressed that she has so much energy and never thought that she would be able to stop the insulin because she had been told once she started the insulin she would have to take it for the rest of her life. Now, mind you- she did not have any surgery or take any magic weight loss pill and did not go on any drastic life changing altering diet or introduce any other magic potion or health juice etc. This can be you as well.
